[dropcap]G[/dropcap]iancarlo Gonzalez may get to cash in on a tremendous performance in the World Cup.
The Ticos of Costa Rica made it to the quarterfinals and put in outstanding defensive performances in every match they played, including a shootout loss to eventual third-place Netherlands.
With great performances come big clubs looking to add to their roster.
Reported by Twitter handle @MLSTransfers, apparently Portuguese side Benfica and Italian side Palermo have both done extensive scouting on the 26-year-old center back. Now, for Crew supporters, there isn’t much information to substantiate the rumors. There are no quotes or reports actually linked to this, but for what it’s worth, @MLSTransfers has been pretty spot on in the past when it comes to rumors.
If both of these clubs come calling, then there could be a small bidding war that could net the Crew somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 million.
Whether the Crew would decide to cash in remains to be seen, but the front office has said that they will do what is best for the club. That could mean absolutely anything.
Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
