[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he World Cup will continue to draw most of the attention from soccer fans worldwide, but Columbus has a date on Wednesday with the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park in the fifth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Round of 16 is up next for both of these clubs and the Crew will have a bit of a revenge on their mind as they were eliminated by the Fire in last year’s tournament.
Last year, the Crew were defeated by the Fire, 2-1, in the fourth round. This year, the Crew are hoping to fare a little better. No word on who is available just yet for the match, but with the MLS returning from their World Cup break, there are hopes that both Federico Higuain and Jairo Arrieta will both be available on Wednesday. The Crew’s attack was spearheaded by Ben Speas, but there was definitely a lack of creativity in the midfield.
Sixteen teams remain in the tournament, with the Crew advancing by knocking out NASL side Indy Eleven, 2-1; while Chicago beat the USL-PRO Pittsburgh Riverhounds, 2-1.
The match kicks off at 8:30 PM ET from Toyota Park with tickets available via Ticketmaster.
