[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s a music fan, how many times have you griped over the fact that your favorite band, “never plays our city” when they go out on tour?
Well the dedicate Foo Fighters fans of Richmond, VA have been dealing with such an issue for a longer period than most. Faced with the fact that the band hasn’t played in their town since 1999, Richmond fans decided to launch a crowd funding campaign; selling tickets to a show that didn’t actually exist. And wouldn’t you know, it looks like they actually pulled it off.
The campaign to bring Foo Fighters back to the city launched in March of this year, with the goal being to sell 1,400 tickets at $50 a pop through the crowd funding site CrowdTilt. Appreciating the unique nature of the campaign, fans who contributed were assured that their credit cards would only be charged if the show sold out (meeting the campaign’s goal) and that they would be fully refunded if the the band declined to play the show.
The campaign also drew in some big contributions from local businesses. Sugar Shack Donuts and Brown’s Volkswagen each donated $5,000 to the cause. Ultimately, every contribution has now paid off. Shortly after reaching the goal of drawing in $70,000 in ticket sales for the show, Foo Fighters made the following tweet:
“well, well, well…@foofighters_rva@rvadonuts@browns_vdubs@Crowdtilt See ya soon…let’s have a good time.#RVA
Hats off to the fans of Richmond, Virginia! Details for the show are expected to be announced in the near future.
