To celebrate special effects wizard Ray Harryhausen, who passed away one year ago next month, Sony Movie Channel will host a tribute, featuring themed blocks every Wednesday in May at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT, as well as a nine film marathon the first Saturday of the month.
The tribute kicks off with SMC-exclusive documentary “Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan,” which explores Harryhausen’s career, looking at the man behind the monsters through film exploration and interviews with filmmakers he inspired, including Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg and Guillerm del Toro. Following the premiere is “It Came From Beneath the Sea” and “20 Million Miles to Earth.”
May 14’s schedule focuses on “Sinbad,” with “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad,” “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad” and “Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger,” and May 28 includes “Mysterious Island” and a “Fathers of Science Fiction” double feature.
