[dropcap]D[/dropcap]espite a 5-4 loss to the Rockford Ice Hogs Friday night, the Grand Rapids Griffins earned their first playoff berth in the month of March since 2009, as well as their first consecutive back-to-back berths since 2006 and 2007.

Grand Rapids finished their season-high road trip with a 4-2-0-1 record. Landon Ferraro and Andrej Nestrasil each scored a pair of power play goals in the losing performance.

The Griffins played the Ice Hogs again Saturday at the Van Andel Arena in front of a sellout crowd of 10,834. The Griffins won 4-1. Sunday’s game at the BMO Harris Bradley Center saw Teemu Pulkkinen score twice to lift Grand rapids to a 3-1 victory.

Grand Rapids has seven games left in the regular season. Their next home game will be against the Iowa Wildat 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Griffins hold a 43-20-2-4 heading into the game.

The Griffins sit in third place in the AHL, second in the Western Conference and lead the Midwest Division by six points with 92 overall.
