British band ASIA brings an update to their music style with their new album “Gravitas,” introducing both a new sound and new guitarist, Sam Coulson.

John Wetton and Geoff Downes wrote and produced the album, which will release on March 25 in North America on Frontiers Records, as both a standard CD, or Deluxe addition with a DVD and two bonus tracks.
The album covers a mix of themes. Title track “Gravitas,” talks about a man’s struggles, while other songs on the album are more romantic, like “The Closer I Get To You,” which shares a story of unrequited love.
“Pure, unadulterated and stereotypical ASIA, with raw energy, enthusiasm and free from impurities,” John Wetton said in a press release from the band. “It conveys the spectrum of emotion and colour from real life agonies to ecstatic fantasy of escapism. Great songs, fabulous performance. ‘Gravitas’ is ASIA by ASIA. At last.”
In 1982, ASIA made their mark in music, with their best-selling debut album. Keyboardist Geoff Downes, Guitarist Steve Howe, Drummer Carl Palmer and Bassist/vocalist John Wetton made up the band, who got back together in 2006.
“It always was a great live band, but this time the dragon has awakened with fresh energy, direction and purpose,” says Wetton. “As with any new ASIA album, putting it all together presents something of a challenge,” says Geoff Downes. “Everyone involved rose way above and beyond. When we step on stage now; we can feel it and I know the fans can feel it.”
As Carl Palmer says: “Performing on stage is where this band truly comes into its element. Seeing the fans reacting to our music is what makes it all worthwhile. It is the fuel that drives this train we call ASIA.”
