Unlike your average news article or column you might find here at The Pit, this is more of a general announcement!
The Pit: Sports and Entertainment would like to share with the world our official Minecraft server. For those who may not know about the spectacle that is Minecraft, it is a game based around building, mining and digging holes all while trying to survive the horrors of the land. Farming and hunting to keep hunger at bay while gathering supplies to build shelters to protect the player from the hordes of zombies, skeletal archers and creepers.
Our server offers a slew of features not generally found in vanilla Minecraft, with the server being built with CraftBukkit 1.6.2.
One thing players might notice is that mobs, the horrors of the dark, do not burn in daylight. In addition, there is a 20 percent chance every in-game night that a Zombie Apocalypse will occur. What this means is that for every player online, 40 zombies will spawn. For each player online, a total of 30 of those 40 zombies must be killed to survive.
For example, if there are four players online, 160 zombies will spawn randomly around the players while a total of 120 need to be killed. If there is one player, 30 of 40 need to be killed. The Zombie Apocalypse offers rewards, usually involving a variable amount of diamonds, for a successful survival. Failure doesn’t hurt the player, but the zombies do not despawn and because mobs don’t burn in sunlight, a player may still be required to fight their way through the hordes.
Another feature is an economy and shop system. Killing mobs earns players rewards, while killing penned animals and villagers end in fines. A bounty system is set up, for players to place, accept and collect bounties on other players. Shops are set up around the server for users to buy and sell either from admin shops or player created shops.
A portal system is in place for fast travel between far off realms within the server. The most established realm is Skyrim, a floating city in the sky with a massive back story that is discovered through the completion of the Skyrim Fortress dungeon (which is still under construction).
Our current slew of players have some clans established, including the Privateers of the Freelands and a yet-to-be named alchemists guild in the outlying areas of the main spawn.
Much like this website, countless hours of construction and thought were put into the Minecraft sever and now we hope to share it with our readers. The server is small, only capable of holding 12 players at a time, but with popularity this may increase over time.
Admins are djdennisOU (Damien Dennis) and jkoby25b (Jason Kobylarz). The Pit’s gaming editor, Kyle Orski (korski1) is also an associate admin.
Please, enjoy the server, follow the rule and thanks for visiting our new website!
