The bad boys from the United Kingdom, Asking Alexandria, hit the perfect chord between metalcore and pure rock with their most recent album “From Death to Destiny,” released Tuesday, August 6.
The entire band, especially frontman Danny Worsnop, have stated that they are heavily influenced by the styles of rock from the 80’s, a fact that clearly shines through in this album. For example, the third song off the album, “The Death of Me,” has a mix of classic metalcore sound with rock guitar rifts and beautifully sung though raspy clean vocals for the chorus. There is even a rock mix of the song, which is all clean vocals and hard rock instrumentals.
The song “Run Free” was released well before much from the rest of the album was known. The song features a clash of that older rock with screaming that can be argued as a parallel to Corey Taylor’s of Slipknot and Stone Sour; a trait throughout the album.
Song number 10, “Moving On,” shares similarities to the classic rock ballads of old that music fans will definitely recall. The album then transitions into another song, “The Road,” that starts sounding almost like another ballad but quickly separates itself from that. The breakdown is reminiscent to those of old for Asking Alexandria.
“From Death to Destiny” is definitely an album that both the band and their fans can get behind. If Asking Alexandria had started their careers with this new sound and blend of genre’s, they’d be superstars without a doubt. This is a definite must buy!
