Last weekend marked the seventh installment of the annual Rock on the Range music festival from the heart of Ohio at Columbus Crew Stadium. The event was just the second ever to be sold out and the first since going to a three-day format, including three full days and two and a half. Over 105,000 rock music fans from every corner of the country converged onto Columbus to tear the walls down.
Perhaps the biggest act of the entire weekend and show stealer was Alice in Chains. The 90’s alternative rock heavyweights headlined Sunday’s show second to Soundgarden.
Jerry Cantrell and the boys took the stage with William DuVall, who joined the band in 2005 following a hiatus after the death of Layne Staley. DuVall did his predecessor extreme justice, almost mirroring the unique vocal style Staley had and creating an energy both on stage and around the stadium.
Alice in Chains, touring to promote their upcoming release “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here,” played a handful of hits fans would know as well as newer songs.
The band performed songs such as “Down in a Hole,” “Dirt” and “Man in the Box,” amongst others. Fans across the soccer stadium were in song and dance through the entire 60-minute set.
Despite being an older band and with DuVall at the head of the group, they did not fail to disappoint. Die-hard fans would be pleased to know that this is still the same Alice in Chains of old. Grab their new album and catch Alice in Chains on tour this summer!
