Recently, I bought a Minecraft server to play online with my friends and girlfriend. For those of you that don’t know, Minecraft is a game about mining and building while also trying to stay safe from creatures of the night and dark.
For those looking to host their own servers, you best be technically savvy and have an idea as to what you need to run it. There are thousands of possibilities that can make each server and game unique. But for those not technically endowed or those lacking the computing strength, an outside hosting service is advised.
After months of researching, one server hosting site stood out to me. Peak Hosting was inexpensive and hosted a slew of options and functionability. Sizes range from servers that can host six people at any given time online to 400. These server sizes are named after creatures in the game, such as the Chicken package, Zombie package and the Creeper package. The Pit uses the Chicken package for the time being.
Prices range from $2.49 to $59.95 a month, depending on the size of the server. Customers have the ability to pay either monthly or quarterly. From there, they also have the options to purchase a dedicated server IP address and get the Manage Plugins addon to their server. The dedicated IP allows a single address to be used at all times to enter the Minecraft server. The Manage Plugins is a very important tool to use if new to the hosting world.
The Pit’s server has been in existence for under a week now. In my quest to make the game more fun and unique for my friends, I have added a variety of plugins and commands. Because I am new to hosting, I have had issues getting my players, which includes The Pit’s own Kyle Orski, permissions to use some of the plugins I am most excited about. Originally, I failed to purchase the Manage Plugins addon, thereby making the first week very hectic and tragic to the server. Multiple deaths caused by server restarts and crashes have plagued The Pit.
But customer service at Peak Hosting, as well as their services, are superb and have been incredibly helpful in solving our hosting issues.
Long story short, if you are looking to start your own Minecraft server and need or want and outside host, Peaki Hosting may be the right choice to go with.
Stay tuned, as The Pit’s server grows, we may open it up to the public and allow our readers to join in the gaming experience with us.
