RedSoxOpening Day at Yankee Stadium pitted long-time rival Boston Red Sox against the New York home team. After a disappointing 2012 and collapse at the end of 2011, the Red Sox put the league on notice.

A single from Josh Iglesias in the second was all it took to get Boston on top, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia ran in for the score. Shane Victorino singled next, allowing two more runners to round home plate followed by Dustin Pedroia getting single and driving in Jacoby Ellsbury.

Boston would hold a 4-0 advantage until the fourth inning when New York would drive in two runs.

Jon Lester pitched for Boston and looked to make a complete 180 following his previous season’s performance. Lester pitched five innings, allowing two runs and recording seven strikeouts. He had a .360 ERA.

The Red Sox and Yankees will face off again tonight, and if the Red Sox can manage another victory, signs may be pointing to a Beantown revival. While the season is just starting, things are looking upwards for Boston.
