Detroit City FC announced Thursday that it will host an international friendly match versus Club Necaxa of Mexico’s Liga MX. The match is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10 at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Mich.

This will be the first time a first-division side is hosted at Keyworth Stadium by DCFC; Liga MX is considered North America’s strongest soccer league. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Club Necaxa is based in Aguascalientes, Mexico and has won Liga MX three times – its last championship was in 1998. They will be the first team from Liga MX to travel to Michigan in decades.

Ignacio Ambríz, the club’s manager and former Necaxa player, earned 64 caps for the national team from 1992-1995 and was the Mexico team captain during the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

On Club Necaxa’s roster are Ventura Alvarado, Brayan Beckeles and Matías Fernàndez. Alvarado is a defender for the United States national team, Beckeles a defender for the Honduran national team and Fernàndez is a midfielder for the Chilean national team.

Necaxa is in sixth place during its 2018 Clausura (winter) season. Liga MX plays a split season format, Apertura (summer) and Clausura (winter).

Detroit City FC has hosed two other international opponents in the past two seasons, FC United of Manchester and Glentoran FC of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Le Rogue plans to announce more details on the first international match DCFC will play, with the match set for May 19.
