Today, founder Kevin Lyman announced that this summer will be the final cross country Vans Warped Tour. This news hits the alternative scene hard. This year will be the 24th summer of Warped Tour.
Lyman states, “I have been a very lucky person to have traveled across the country and sometimes around the world as one of the founders and producers of the Vans Warped Tour. Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour. I sit here reflecting on the tour’s incredible history, what the final run means for our community, and look forward to what’s to come as we commemorate the tour’s historic 25th anniversary in 2019.”
Warped has hosted a wide range of artists including Katy Perry, Kid Rock and Avenged Sevenfold. It has shaped the careers of rock bands like A Day to Remember, Paramore, and Green Day.
Warped Tour is a sort of right of passage in the alternative scene. It is a hot, sweaty day full of seeing ones favorite band as well as hearing new music. It brings people of all ages together.
I can personally remember my first Warped Tour. It is where I first crowd surfed and experienced a real mosh pit. I remember how it was hot, but I did not care because I got see and experience something that is nearly indescribable. Warped Tour is unique. You can be drenched in sweat, dehydrated and hungry but none of that matters because you’re surrounded by people throwing their fists in the air, singing along to Sum 41.
It also brings the community together. Warped Tour has paired with charities including To Write Love on Her Arms, Music Saves Lives and Feed The Children Now.
Lyman states “Though the tour and the world have changed since ’95, the same feeling of having the ‘best summer ever’ will live on through the bands, the production teams, and the fans that come through at every stop. The enduring spirit of the Vans Warped Tour remains as bright as ever, continuing to inspire creativity and ambition in new and exciting ways as we prepare for a 25th anniversary celebration in 2019.”
