Dashboard Confessional sells out The Fillmore, Detroit with The All American Rejects

Dashboard Confessional and The All American Rejects bring nostalgia to The Fillmore, Detroit last week for a sold out show....

Let’s take a trip back to early 2000’s. Why? Because Dashboard Confessional and The All American Rejects are touring together. Joined by guests The Maine and The Social Animals, the stop at The Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan completely sold out. Indie rock band The Social Animals started the night. Their music was captivating, and immediately received applause and cheers from the crowd, even if they had never heard of them before. Their set featured songs from their LP The Formative Years including “Misunderstood”, “Let Me Go” and “I Guess in America”.

The Maine took the stage next, prompting the crowd to “get groovy” as they danced on stage. Vocalist John O’Callaghan interacted with the crowd the entire set. He constantly threw water onto the front row, as well as sharing a beer with a man at the barrier. The band opened their set with “Black Butterflies & Deja Vu”. During their fan favorite “Girls Do What They Want”, the band brought a crowd member on stage to sing with them. After the fan honestly admitted he didn’t know the words, O’Callaghan took advantage of the situation to hype the crowd even more through teaching the man the words, as well as having him teach the crowd.

Finally, nostalgia took in as The All American Rejects took the stage. Vocalist Tyson Ritter instructed the crowd that they were traveling back in time to the early 2000’s as the band opened with “Swing Swing” from their 2002 self titled LP The All American Rejects. Fans erupted into applause, and sang back every word during “Dirty Little Secret”. During “Kids in the Street”, Ritter jumped into the crowd and sang the entire song surrounded by fans. The set also included a cover of The Pixies “Where is My Mind?”. The band ended with their anthem “Gives You Hell”, a perfect way to end the set.

Dashboard Confessional opened with “Vindicated”, and after some small technical difficulties were able to power through as if nothing had occurred. Their set was exactly what fans had been waiting for, including performances of “The Good Fight”, “The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most” and “Screaming Infidelities” The set also included a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’s “Today”. The encore of the evening included “Hands Down” as well as an outro of Semisonic’s “Closing Time”.
