This summer, The Color Morale along with The Plot in You, Dayseeker and Picturesque are on the Desolate Divine Tour to celebrate The Color Morale’s latest LP, Desolate Divine. Their stop at The Shelter in Detroit, Michigan marked the fourth sold out show in a row on this tour. Local bands As We Divide and A War Within opened the night.

As We Divide started the night off with a set full of high energy. Vocalist Robbie Hunt was a whirlwind on stage; he never stopped moving or interacting with the crowd. The band performed their most recent release “Ease the Pain” as well as a sneak peek at their new song “Desperate”. A War Within continued the high energy as they took the stage, causing the already rowdy pits to widen. Vocalist Nikhil Rao’s screams pierced through the crowd. The band’s set featured their hit single “Slave” off of their latest album Believe

Kentucky natives Picturesque took the stage full force. Kyle Hollis’s melodic vocals paired with his intense screams set the scene for the rest of the evening. The crowd never seemed to stopped moving. Their set featured the song “Monstrous Things” from their latest LP Back to Beautiful as well as fan favorite “Fake Fiction”.

California natives Dayseeker opened their set with “Vultures”, a single off their latest LP, Dreaming is Sinking /// Waking is Rising. While their music contains intense drops and vocals, their set contained heartfelt messages. Vocalist Rory Rodriguez opened up about “A Cancer Uncontained”, and explained its meaning in his fathers battle with Parkinson’s disease. “The Earth Will Turn” also contained a personal meaning to Rodriguez, who explained it was about his mother’s battle with drug addiction.

The Plot in You brought out the rowdiest crowd of the night, featuring one of the heaviest sets of the evening. They opened with their latest single “Feel Nothing”. During the opening song, one of the biggest mosh pits of the night formed. Landon Tewers’ immensely talented vocals captivated the crowd, leading them to sing along every word.  Their set featured songs off of their 2015 LP Happiness in Self Destruction, including “Pillhead”, “Time Changes Everything” and “Take Me Away”.

The Color Morale took the stage with a set that never had a dull moment. They entered the stage, while vocalist Garret Rapp commented on how he would rather spend the night at another sold out show than be down the street where Metallica was playing. The heartfelt comment left fans even more proud and excited of the band they came to see. The band opened with “Lonesome Soul”, the first track on the new album Desolate Divine. Garret Rapp never seemed to part from the crowd. He constantly shared the mic with fans, who knew every word to every song. Other songs featured from the new album included “Clip Paper Wings”, “Trail of Blood” and “Walls”. The band ended the night with a two song encore featuring the song “Strange Comfort” from the LP Know Hope. Rapp and guitarist Devin King moved to the middle of the floor, performing a special acoustic rendition of “Version of Me” while surrounded by fans.

The Pit Media had the opportunity to sit down with Landon Tewers and Josh Childress from The Plot in You before the show to talk about the tour, and the bands new single “Feel Nothing”. Tewers tells us that embarking on this tour was fun. They had never toured with any of the other bands before, so getting to know the other bands and grow close with them was fun. This prompted the question; What has the funniest moment on tour been? Childress quickly responded with stories of him drinking, climbing on top of the roof of the band’s van, only to fall off. The two laughed over remembering the silly moment, showing us just how close the band is. When asked about an embarrassing moment on tour, both Tewers and Childress could not recall any for the current tour, but laughed about an experience in Germany a while ago. The band was deceived by an old employee of a venue, and had been told that they could trash the green room because it was going to be torn down. Laughing back on the memory, Tewers and Childress recalled the embarrassment that ensued once they realized that the venue was in fact not being torn down.

The band had just recently signed to Fearless Records, and released a new single, “Feel Nothing”. We asked Tewers and Childress what to expect from The Plot in You in the upcoming future. They confirmed our assumption that there is definitely a new album in the works. Each of their albums has varied slightly from each other. Tewers explained that this album will sound different than previous work, and will have the most diversity within the album itself. The bands recent cover on Punk Goes Pop, Vol. 7 of James Bay’s “Let It Go” follows a style that “sounds like it could be a part of the new album”. The two explained that when writing music, it isn’t about taking the easy way out by sticking with what they already know in order to have a successful release. It’s about having fun, and finding the passion in what they do. Tewers had also just recently wrapped up a successful tour for his solo project, and was happy to be back in Michigan, his hometown. Both Tewers and Childress (who comes from nearby Toledo, Ohio) had many friends and some family coming to see their set tonight, leaving both excited for the nights show.
