Day two of Lansing, Michigan’s Common Ground Festival featured various country artists including LOCASH and headliner Toby Keith as part of his Interstates and Tailgates tour. Aside from Ford being the tour’s sponsor, day two of common ground was also sponsored by radio station 100.7 WITL.
Sterling Heights native Lisa Mary opened the day. Today was special not only due to her opening the festival, but her debut album Everyone Has a Story to Tell was released that morning as well. She performed her song “Sit on the Fence”, explaining that it was about dealing with someone who does not know what they want. She also performed her sassy country girl anthem “You Ain’t Seen Crazy Yet”.
Aileeah Colgan and her band opened the Auto Value main stage for the day. Her sassy country spunk and constant energy on stage brought the crowd to their feet dancing. Their set opened with “Should Have Known Better”, a song full of passion and emotion that shows off Colgan’s vocal talent. She included a cover of country legend Johnny Cash’s “Gods Gonna Cut You Down” providing a twist to his deep soulful lyrics.
Drew Hale brought his modern country with a twist of rock elements to the Sparrow stage as he opened with his song “Shot of Whiskey”, a fast paced song you could not help but dance to. He also played his new song “Redneck Sound”. Hale told the story of moving from El Paso, Texas to northern Michigan and the connections he has made while making his new home. He shared that this is what lead him to write the song “El Paso Skyline”. 
Preston Brust and Chris Lucas form the duo LOCASH, joined by their band, kicked off the party of the night at Common Ground. They opened with their hit “You’re Gonna Fly” before celebrating “I Know Somebody” and it’s top record status. After pulling out a red solo cup, the duo ensued in their catchy song “Drunk Drunk”. During the performance, Lucas noticed a fan singing the wrong words and corrected him, all in good fun. The duo also performed their latest song 
“Ring on Every Finger” and their song written with Tim McGraw “Truck Yeah”. After taking a moment to bless those who have served for our country, the duo took a moment to call out those who kneel for the national anthem, asking those who see it to “kick their ass”. Their set came to and end with a performance of “Ain’t Startin Tonight”.
The Railers took on the Sparrow stage as the sun started to come down. The trio consists of Jonathon Lawson and his wife Cassandra accompanied by his brother Jordan. The minute they took the stage they were all smiling and dancing, and that transcended onto the crowd. “Kumba Y’all” was a song about how in the south, they don’t sing “Kumbaya” but instead “Kumba Y’all”. Jordan broke out the fiddle and showed off his skills for the hit song “These Hands”. 
Finally, Toby Keith took the stage, opening with a funny video on his travels on tour. He opened with “Haven’t Had a Drink All Day” and proceeded with his two patriotic anthems “American Ride” and “Made in America”. This lead the crowd to break out in a chant of “USA, USA USA” while waving their glow sticks given to them by sponsors. Keith then performed his latest song “Wacky Tobaccy” about none other than marijuana. As an intro to “Beer for My Horses” 
Keith gave a heartfelt speech thanking not only those who have served in the U.S. Military, but all first responders, teachers, and doctors. Rather than sticking with only his recent songs, Keith performed some of his 90’s hits including “Who’s That Man” and “Wish I Didn’t Know Now”. After, the crowd raised their beers and song along to the infamous “Red Solo Cup”. Toby Keith wanted to highlight his bands talent, and did so by covering Ted Nugent’s “Stranglehold”.
Keith closed his set with a two song encore including “American Solider” and “Courtesy of the Red, White,and Blue”. His set left those in the audience filled with patriotism and pride. The evening was closed with an after party at the Sparrow Stage where DJ Jay Vee mixed country tracks for one last little party of the night.
