Bayside and Say Anything sell out the Crofoot Ballroom

Bayside and Say Anything are currently on tour together and they brought a sold out energetic crowd to the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, MI....

Bayside and Say Anything are two bands that have a fan base ranging in age. The angst driven alternative punk bands toured together this spring, along with opener Reggie and the Full Effect. Vocalist James Dewees of Reggie and the Full Effect engaged with the crowd immensely. He created what seemed like casual conversation in between each song, creating an ever more intimate atmosphere. The band opened with “Happy V-Day” and performed favorites “Get Well Soon” and “Congratulations Smack + Katy”.

Due to the unfortunate event of a death in the family of drummer Chris Guglielmo, Bayside members Anthony Raneri and Jack O’Shea performed an acoustic set for the venue in hopes of not letting fans down. The two did a phenomenal job, and despite the unfortunate circumstances, created a more intimate experience with the crowd. Without the usual intricate guitar riffs and drumming, you could easily hear the crowd singing every single word back to the band. They opened with “They Looked like Strong Hands” as well as covering “Megan” by the Smoking Popes. The two ended the set with “Devotion and Desire”. Despite having to play songs that are always played plugged in, Bayside had a beautiful acoustic set.

Say Anything headlined the evening, opening up with their iconic song “Do Better.” The band was packed full of energy on stage. During the performance of “Belt,” vocalist Max Bemis joined the crowd at the barrier, sharing the mic as fans sang back. Towards the end of the set, guitarist Kenny Bridges took his guitar and crowd surfed. To top it off, he passed his guitar to a girl crowd surfing. Say Anything closed their 12 song set with an encore of “Every Man as a Molly”.
