Butch Trucks, co-founder and original drummer for The Allman Brothers Band, has passed away at the age of 69. Unfortunately, his death was ruled a suicide from a gunshot wound to the head. The rock world lost many big names last year and unfortunately, this year is no exception. He will be missed by many and his presence was felt by many who witnessed his drumming during his time with the Allman Brothers and his solo band.

Trucks bandmates and other musicians paid their respects to the passing of a legend. Warren Haynes, Trucks former Allman Brothers bandmate, commented on his death with “still in shock.” Haynes also wrote a tribute to Trucks on his website. “After all the devastating losses of 2016, I can’t believe it. I’m still in shock. I am truly honored to have played music and shared life with Butch for over 25 years. He was one of a kind. As a drummer and as a human being,” Gregg Allman also commented on his death with his tribute. “I’ve lost another brother and it hurts beyond words. Butch and I knew each other since we were teenagers and we were bandmates for over 45 years. He was a great man and a great drummer and I’m going to miss him forever. Rest In Peace Brother Butch.” Sheryl Crow posted a photo of Trucks on her twitter and said “RIP Butch Trucks. Sad day in rock and roll. You will be missed”.

Sadly, we’re at a point in life where the heroes many grew up with are finally slowing down and passing on. Butch Trucks will always be remembered as the powerhouse drummer that he was and helping found one of the greatest American bands to ever come out. Butch Trucks will live forever through his music and his skills behind a kit, but most importantly, his care for those around him and giving the best show possible. From everyone here at The Pit Media, we send our love and support to Butch’s family, friends, fans, and bandmates. Listen to an Allman Brothers Band jam in honor of Butch.
