The new season of Supergirl arrived on the CW this week after a year on CBS and Kara (Melissa Benoist) brought her cousin, Big Blue, with her. We have the recap on what went down.

At the end of last season, a Kryptonian ship crashed with a survivor that Kara and the fine folks at the Department of Extra-Normal Operations are trying to identify. Meanwhile, at CatCo, Kara is moving up and family from Metropolis, in Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin), has come to join her — both at the office and to save cats from trees.

But the more things change, the more they stay the same. The sister of a certain Mr. Luthor (Katie McGrath) has taken over his company and wants her out of the way (gee, wonder who). Coming after her with drones possessing heavy artillery is the deadly Corben (Frederick Schmidt).

Whether you are an avid fan of the Superman books or read them for a short while, there are guest appearances and references galore to grab onto. Characters, whole beats, and lines of dialogue are lifted straight from the Donner movies and the 90’s animated series — two of the most iconic and beloved interpretations.

Changes to the show do it worlds of good. CW is the perfect fit for the show’s campy style and finally bringing Superman into the light is an A+ move. Tyler Hoechlin captures the essence of the Man of Steel in a way not seen since Dean Cain or Tim Daly.

He is already winning over fans who feel he excels in ways Henry Cavill can’t under the guidance of Zack Snyder.

And with respect to the episode’s villain and his (ahem) steely demeanor, fear not, there is a vested interest by a party (make that Project) to get him that new heart…and they can’t wait.
