One Direction electrifies Ford Field in Detroit

One Direction brings the Honda Civic Tour to Ford Field in Detroit....

oned[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]ou wouldn’t think that an iconic boy band of today’s generation would ever bring pyrotechnics to their show, but One Direction did just that, as they brought the Honda Civic Tour to Ford Field in Detroit August 29th.

Being a predominantly heavy metal fan, I was a little ashamed to say I was seeing One Direction. When they kicked things off with a loud and thunderous fireworks display and bright laser show, my respect for the young guys grew quickly. Joining the fireworks display was their song “Clouds” to get the young crowd warmed up for a long night.

As I have already stated, I am mostly into the heavier side of things. With that being said, I have a new founding respect for One Direction and their fan base. While composed of mostly young, pre-teen girls, they are all extremely dedicated fans. I have never heard such a loud reaction from any of the hundreds of concerts and festivals I have attended in my 17 years of attending shows.

I could sit here and break down the set list for you, but we don’t have enough time to cover 25 total songs. One of the only songs I can say I enjoy because of its catchy rhythm is “What Makes You Beautiful” The fans reacted just as expected, being their number one hit, and it was not a disappointing display. They followed up with “Through The Dark” “Girl Almighty” and another chart topper “Story of my Life” before breaking for their encore.

One of the coolest sites of the night, besides the fireworks display and all of the insane laser light shows they had, was seeing 50,000 cell phones light up the stadium. I’ve seen lighters mixed with cell phones, but seeing everybody hold up their lights waving them back and fourth, was truly a beautiful site for someone outside of their comfort zone.

Congratulations to One Direction for gaining a new fan and continuing to show how dominant you are in the music industry and just how important and dedicated your young fan base truly is.
