Chelsea Grin delivers a screaming performance in Detroit

Chelsea Grin's stop in Detroit was one to remember for area fans....

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]helsea Grin made a screaming impact on Wednesday night when they brought The Ashes to Ashes tour to Detroit. This band has evolved and grown since their earlier days in 2008.

The night began when The Family Ruin hit the stage. Last year, this band joined Ben Bruce’s record company, KBB Records, and has made a name for themselves with their single, “Let It Burn.” The group closed out their set with this song and the crowd lit up and sang along before giving them a warm exiting applause.

Next up was the Illinois natives, Sworn In, and they began their set with “Weeping Willow.” The intensity of the crowd was exuding consistently throughout their set, and once “Hypocrisy” hit the speakers, it was almost overwhelming. Before you know it, Tyler is instructing the crowd to make a wall of death and it took up the entire front of the venue.

It was upsetting to learn that Black Tongue had pulled out of the tour at the end of February due to an accident they got in while on the road. Numerous people weren’t aware of this occurrence, and put a damper on their evening.

Then it was time for the California guys from Carnifex to debut their set. Carnifex melted the crowd with songs, “Hell Chose Me” and “Lie to My Face.”

When it came time for Chelsea Grin to play, you could tell the audience was worn out because the majority of them were sitting on the ground. That quickly changed when they stampeded across the stage and opened their set with their single, “Playing With Fire.”

First of all, it is pertinent to point out that Alex Koehler’s vocals and screaming is as amazing live as it is recorded. Halfway through their set, Alex asked the crowd to make a circle pit, and when he did so, his voice was extremely timid and gentle. It makes you wonder how such a powerful scream can come erupt from those vocal chords.

Along with the strong instrumentals, the band can truly deliver a noble performance. The crowd went nuts for “My Damnation”, “Clockwork” and “Recreant.”

It was a metal-filled evening that almost blew the roof off the venue or shook it to its core, because the floor acutely reverberated under your feet the entire night.

Be sure to check if The Ashes to Ashes tour is coming to a town near you soon.
