Taking Back Sunday electrify Detroit

Taking Back Sunday lit up The Fillmore Detroit last week, proving that the band has still got it....

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Fillmore in Detroit was packed for Taking Back Sunday mid-week.Opening acts included Letlive. and The Menzingers, who managed to get the crowd ready for what was to come when Taking Back Sunday hit the stage.

The song that kicked off the set was somewhat of an intro track entitled “Preface.” As soon as the song ended, the band shot right into high gear with “Flicker, Fade” which is in sequential order from their newest release, “Happiness Is…”

Twenty-two songs composed the set list for the night with the band hitting every stop in their discography.  What very well may have been the highlight of the night was the last two songs in the set: “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)” and “MakeDamnSure.”  During these two songs, a renewed energy seemed to arise through the members with them giving their all.

Voices from the audience were filling up The Fillmore while frontman Adam Lazzara interacted with the crowd by holding the mic out for them to sing. He got what he hoped for, with the fans being just as loud as the performance, and everyone jumping and moshing. Stage production for the show was a new experience for any fan who has seen Taking Back Sunday before. Two very large screens on both sides of stage, and a drum riser with a screen below it.  This aided in creating a mesmerizing experience due to the unique and colorful images being shown on them.

Not too long into the set, a heartwarming and special moment happened. A fan in the very front had been holding a sign got called up onto stage.  He proceeded to call out for his girlfriend to join him up there.  As soon as she arrived on stage, the fan gave a speech to her about how special she is, and some of the moments they shared. Then, as expected, he got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. She said yes! Applause was overwhelming from the crowd to congratulate the future bride and groom.

What if someone who hasn’t seen Taking Back Sunday asked how their shows are? The best way to describe it would be to use their newest release. “Happiness Is…” a Taking Back Sunday show. Looking around the venue, the audience was filled with nothing but smiles, people sharing moments, connecting with others, and having a good time.
