Beyond the Barricade Tour breaks the ice in Grand Rapids

Motionless in White led the charge into Grand Rapids as the Break The Barricade tour made it's stop at the Intersection last weekend....

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]undaythe pit 2, February 22nd was a cold night in Grand Rapids, Michigan but all concert-goers had the same idea in order to warm up. As everyone piled into the Intersection the heat started generating, and fast.

When this tour was first announced I was confused, yet excited. The musical diversity is beyond anything I have ever seen before in a tour such as this one. The Intersection was packed to the brim with music-lovers alike. Everyone covered head to toe with their favorite merch, highly anticipating for the show to start.

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit late due to the weather so I only caught the last bit of the first band, Ice Nine Kills. Which, I was pretty disappointed about because they were one of my favorite bands on the bill that night.

Ice Nine Kills NEVER disappoints at The Intersection, they get everyone energized and ready for the bands to come. They played the last few songs off of their album The Predator Becomes the Prey. Everyone was jumping up and down, and moving with the beat.

Next on the bill was New Years Day, an Alternative-Rock band from California. They opened with their popular song Do Your Worst from their recent album, Victim to Villain. The crowd went insane for lead vocalist Ashley Costello who was jumping up and down and head banging uncontrollably. They played most of their songs from Victim to Villian which was released in 2013.

Their set was unforgettable to say the least, don’t worry if you missed it! New Years Day will be on Warped Tour all summer, catch them in Detroit on July 24th.the pit 1

The next band was For Today, a Christian Metalcore band from Iowa. I personally have seen this band many times, but their set never gets old. They played most of their songs off of their 2012 album Immortal, one of my personal favorites. I couldn’t help myself from head-banging with the beat. They played their two popular songs Devastator from their 2010 album Breaker, along with Fearless from Immortal.

For Today really got the crowd moving and at some points lead vocalist, Mattie Montgomery was begging the crowd to come up and touch his hand. Given the cue, everyone started crowd surfing.

Last but not least, headlining was Motionless in White, a very popular American Metal band from Pennsylvania. The whole stage went black and the crowd went insane, I didn’t expect anything less from Motionless in White in all honesty. The stage left off an eerie feeling while it was decorated with melted candles, and skeletons.

Motionless in White gave off a very Marilyn Manson-esque feel during many of their sthe pit 3ongs. They played most of their songs off of the 2014 album Reincarnate released under Fearless Records.

Many fans crow surfed their way to the front of the stage in order to touch Chris Motionless’ hand and sing the lyrics with him. The security guards really had their work cut out for them, that’s for sure.

I was a big uneasy in the beginning about this tour mainly because of the musical differences between the bands, but once again The Intersection did not disappoint me or its fans. I would highly recommended seeing this tour when it stops in your hometown!
