Leslie Hindman Auctioneers Elton John[dropcap]O[/dropcap]n January 24, 2015 Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will conduct an sale of collectibles from the historic Caribou Ranch.

The auction will include instruments and furnishings used by the legendary musician, Elton John.

Caribou Ranch was a recording studio built in the Rocky Mountains by Grammy award-winning musician and producer James William Guercio in 1972.

The ranch hosted over 150 music legends over the years, including artists Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson and Rod Stewart.

One of the Elton’s pianos being auctioned is a mahogany Steinway & Sons grand piano used while recording the song, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. The song was released as the first single from his 1974 album Caribou and it reached the number one spot on the US and UK music charts.

Another piano included in the sale is a Wm. Knabe & Co. baby grand used by Elton John and Bernie Taupin to write the song, Philadelphia Freedom, which was written as a favor to his friend, tennis star Billie Jean King. The song was one of John’s seven #1 US hits during the early and mid-1970s.

Elton’s instruments along with many other items from other musicians will be included in the auction. Caribou Ranch will being inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2015. A portion of the proceeds will benefit this non-profit organization.
