[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hen it comes to movies that I most wanted to see this year, The Muppets Most Wanted was very high on the list. I don’t know if it’s because they make me feel like a kid again or if I’m just easily entertained, but I’ve always been a fan of the Muppets.

In case you’re not aware, Muppets Most Wanted is clearly a sequel to the 2011 film The Muppets. Just in case you didn’t know this, the opening sequence of the film exists just to tell you inform you that this movie picks up where they left off. In the wise words of Animal, “Sequel! Sequel!”

The basic storyline of the film is that a Kermit is framed by an evil lookalike named Constantine, and is subsequently arrested and sent to prison. What the rest of the Muppets fail to realize is that Constantine has taken the place of Kermit, causing them to struggle with putting on quality shows for their worldwide tour.

Ricky Gervais plays the lead “human” antagonist, playing the accomplice of Constantine throughout his attempts to pull of the biggest heist in the history of the world. Accompanying Gervais are many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, who have roles varying from uncredited cameos, to much more significant characters within the plot.

Although I was hoping Muppets Most Wanted could come close to recreating the success of their last film, it fell short of my expectations. This isn’t to say that it’s not a worthwhile or even a good movie, just that it lacked a bit of freshness. Perhaps it’s because their last movie came after a 12-year wait, whereas this came less than three years later.

Muppets Most Wanted will provide plenty of laughs for everyone from children to grandparents. There aren’t a lot of films that can entertain such a large range of ages, but the Muppets continue to do just that.

I’ll give it three out of four Swedish Chefs.
