[dropcap]O[/dropcap]ceanside, California is home to many annual surfing competitions, whale watching, fishing, the California surf museum and truly embodies much of what people think of when they think about the southern California lifestyle.

Well Oceanside is now home to a new staple that is sure to be around for a while. Hello Betty Fish House recently opened up in  the heart of Oceanside, bringing a wealth of excellent San Diego, Ocean and Baja inspired food and drinks to it’s menu.

Creator Peter Karpinski was inspired by the area while traveling through the area and decided he wanted to make this his next venture.

I want to start of with the design. It’s what everybody will notice first and foremost and the coolest aspect in my own humble opinion. Designed by Andrew Alford and his company, Dirty Lines,  Hello Betty is very sleek, very contemporary but also includes hints of Oceansides nautical past. The restaurant contains a 60-seat bar along with patio and dining areas. One wall contains photos and artwork dedicated to the areas surfing history and the piece de resistance is their dune buggy.

Yes, a golden dune buggy sits as a sort of center piece to bring it all together.

But enough about that. What is the food like?

A lot of what you’d expect and then some. Guests at Hello Betty Fish House can enjoy Ahi Tuna, Oysters, seafood Boils,  shrimp, clams and mussels. But seafood isn’t the only thing on the menu. Other options include Avocado Toast, Smoked Pork Belly Carnitas and the Loco Moco Burger; which includes spam, brown gravy, a fried egg, and huli huli onions.

Hello Betty has an impressive beer selection on draft and by the bottle, that showcases brews from many of the 80+ local breweries in the San Diego area.
