As fans look to Grand Rapids taking on Chicago later this evening in their first game of the 2014 calender year, it seems only fitting for us here at The Pit to take a look at some of the active team leaders and their stats so far this season.

Griffins_Color_ComcastFirst up is No. 28 Tomas Jurco and No. 6 Teemu Pulkkinen. The two wings are leading in overall points for the Griffins with 27, each with 11 goals and 16 assists so far this season. Pulkkinen earned this tally playing in 33 games while Jurco has played in 27.

No. 15 Mitch Callahan leads the Griffins in goals with 13 goals while No. 5 Adam Almquist has 19 assists. Coincidentally, Almquist hasn’t recorded a single goal this season.

Goalie Tom McCollum has played a total of 1165:22 minutes this season, boasting a 12-6-1-1 record. He has allowed just 46 goals while stopping 521 attempts. He allows 2.37 goals per game.

The Griffins as a whole have scored 116 goals with 202 assists for a total of 317 total points. They have taken 1030 shots on goal through 33 games this season.

Of course, credit must be given to the rest of the Grand Rapids team for these numbers and the historic start to the season that they have had. The Griffins hold a 22-8-1-2 record heading into tonight’s game against the Wolves, maintaining a strong lead in the Midwest Division over the third place Chicago team and second place Milwaukee.

The Griffins enter tonight’s contest after losing back-to-back games against the Toronto Marlies, including Monday’s outdoor game at Comerica Park in Detroit as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival.

The puck will drop at 7 p.m. at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.

In other news, Alexey Marchenko was called up to the Red Wings, announced earlier today. He has played in every game for Grand Rapids this season, contributing 16 total points. Marchenko is expected to make his NHL debut tomorrow when the Wings face Dallas.
