I’ve lived on this earth for 21 beautiful years. Coincidentally, Less Than Jake has been providing music for 21 years. Now after almost 5 years after their last album GNV FLA, they bring another offering to the world of ska, See the Light.

While development and change has been a way to keep other artists going (see some of my other album reviews), LTJ has struck gold, this time in the form of going back to what got them started- prolific versing with up beat punk rock music. This is one formula that has withstood the test of time and has helped LTJ keep a wide fan base- one that spans 2 generations.

The biggest thing that stands out about this album is that nothing is old and yet still finds a way to maintain that familiarity that any long time fan would have with LTJ music. Starting off the album with “Good Enough” that band rides with a great punk riff laced with the lyrics questioning the standards.

This song is almost prolific of what the album can stand for. “We were born into believing that it’s true, what’s been good enough for them should be good enough for you.”

LTJ doesn’t give the standard treatment being “good enough” in this album. They give every fan what they expect and even more, giving them what they deserve after a long 5 years.

One thing still stands with LTJ; raw music, no electric beats or crazy changes to their voices, just LTJ being LTJ. If that sounds great to you, the album will be dropping on November 12. If it doesn’t or you’ve never heard of LTJ, get off the couch and go introduce yourself to some of the best pure punk ska there is.

Of course, the only thing that could be better than just listening to the new album would maybe be hearing it live? Well as it turns out, Less Than Jake will be headlining The Fat Tour kicking off November 4th. They will be dropping into Clutch Cargos in Pontiac, MI on November 14th.

Tickets are currently available for all shows on the Fat Tour. A full list of tour dates is available at http://www.fatwreck.com/tour/single_artist/30.
