This is my first post for the Weekly Listen Review. I post on the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of music. This is for pretty much any genre. I feel that the albums, artists, and songs I review are ones you probably listen to as well. Sorry but you’ll hear no reviews for country music from me.

The Good

This week has held some really good music to listen too. First up, the new single from Daft Punk just came out: “Get Lucky”. It still has the good ‘ole Daft Punk vibe. I can’t wait to hear the regular version of this, which is about 2 minutes longer. The vocals I like but they do feel like they come in very quickly. For me Daft Punk isn’t about short and sweet. It’s about epic long Electronic funk. I am completely stoked for their new CD, Random Access Memories, which releases May 21st.

Rap is something that I’m very picky on. It has to hit me just right to like it. And that’s why Kid Cudi stands out to me. I don’t know why, but for some reason I like him as a rapper. His new album just released, Indicud. I had listened to WZRD and thought it was very interesting but started to fall away from his origins. Not talking about bitches and hoes, his jewelry, or fast cars is what I liked in Kid Cudi. With Indicud, he brings it back to his last two albums. Still wanting to stand out from his Man on the Moon series. Indicud is a great middle ground between The End of Day and Mr. Rager… It’s dark and straight from his heart and mind. That’s what I like. He’s just an average dude rapping about his life. Definitely give it a listen.

Killswitch Engage is back with a new album and the original singer. From the first track to the last, Disarm The Descent is probably the best album from Killswitch Engage by far. You can tell they poured their heart and soul into this record. We have a lot to look forward to from this band and I can’t wait to hear more from them now. Highly recommend you check this album out, it’s probably up for the best metal album of the year.

The Bad

With the new Killswitch album also came the new Drowning Pool album. Jason Jones was a decent singer after the original singer had passed away. On the Desensitized album he had great vocals. Not the same of course, but I thoroughly enjoyed that album. Since then there’s been three other albums including this new one as well as multiple changes in singers again. They should have stuck with Jason Jones. This album is God awful. I did not find a single track on this album I enjoyed. I put it on par with the Bullet For My Valentine album Temper Temper. The singer even sounds like Bullet For My Valentine as well. This was a downright disappointment.

So Disturbed is not broken up but on a hiatus. A much…needed…hiatus in my opinion. All of their music had started to mesh into the same exact sound. So with hearing that the lead singer David Draiman was creating a side project, I was excited. I thought finally, Draiman can get out of his Disturbed shell and try something new. He described his new band Device as something new and experimental. Still very metal and also industrial. When the first song released I was right there to listen. “Vilify” started to play and guess what it sounded like. Disturbed. So I decided to brush it off. Maybe it was like that to entice Disturbed fans to listen. Okay I get it. Then the album comes out. The entire thing sounds like Disturbed. Nothing new, nothing experimental, and nothing different. Even when he curses, it sounds like he has no anger behind it. I’m all down for strong language if you have the anger or passion behind them. This made me think he was ‘trying’ to be angry. Really? This was horrible. If you want to hear what selling out sounds like, go listen to Device’s new album.

The Ugly

Beyonce’s new song “Bow Down” sucks. That is all. Go watch it on Youtube. You’ll see. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
