Sailing the Spotify seas, it’s always nice to discover new music. There are many places you can discover new and unknown music. But my favorite is Spotify. Based on my favorite tracks, I started a radio playlist on my ‘Newtronica Mix’. Mimosa is a band that came up as a suggestion. What followed was finding now one of my top listened to artists that stays in my headset.

Their new album is 58 Degrees. It released back in 2011. Hearing a track off a previous album I decided to start with this one and listening to it all the way through. We start off with track one: Up In The Clouds. It definitely makes you soar in the clouds. The atmosphere is created nicely. Mimosa pulls off a nice Glitch Mob sound. And pulls it off well. Keeps you in a happy lucid trance. I like the cocking of a gun sound as part of the percussion. Very solid first track does not get boring and sets up the rest of the adventure.

Track two is the title track: 58 Degrees. From the starting hit it sucks you into something epic. Sounds like something in a fighting game. This track is intense. The synths are fast and the beat is steady and not too overbearing. Once it hits the main part of the song, I love the synth work there. Sounds like you’re fighting in Neo Tokyo. Nothing get’s repetitive which is good, especially with Electronic albums like these.

Next up we have track three: Stairway. Feels dark and reminds me of what Noisa did with the DmC soundtrack. Oh wait, this might be a lot better than what Noisa did. I picture a demon slayer in this one. Working his way up a tower, taking out demon’s left and right. The piano is a nice touch. Something that modern ‘popular’ electronic music needs to implement more. Nothing in this song gets boring or ‘ugh turn it off’ it’s perfectly balanced. Makes me want to slay demons. One of my favorite tracks on the album.

Block Party starts us off with some fast breakbeat. Track four is definitely not slowing us down from Stairway. With the ‘put your hands up’ ‘put ’em up’ samples. This was definitely meant to be a party song. Keeping the same furious vibe, but even more suited for a club. Makes you want to jump around the room and act crazy. Would not recommend to listen to this one while driving. Might cause unnecessary speeding.

Track five, Florescence, starts to wind us down towards the end. The synth in this one I have to say is a bit sharp. Even for my ears. It’s a great track but not the best on the album. The beat is great but that sharp synth that comes in and out of the song makes me cringe a little.

Finally with the end, it goes out with a bang. Track six: It’s Hard To Be Good is definitely hard. In a good way. This is a bonus track but I count this as the last track. It ends the album nicely. The hard hitting bass is crazy. It’s tracks like this that need to be heard more. Not the typical ‘dubstep’ or ‘brostep’ they have today. The last track ends the album solid.

Mimosa is 17 years old. This guy has talent for sure. And until I started listening around on Spotify I had not heard of him. After this album there are many more and I highly recommend them. He has a unique style and he’s got great sounds that need to be heard. If you are a fan of The Glitch Mob or Liquid Dub at all, definitely check Mimosa out. His sound is very unique and will blow you away.
